You can do either. Streaks are healthier than dyeing your whole head but Keyshia Cole is light and has red and blonde hair so its up to you!

get red streaks on black hair! they have hair extensions that you glue to your natural hair at the roots. Since you only want 3 or 4, this is definitely the way to go because they last a few months and you wash your hair and treat the hair as your own. I found some that you can buy on ebay...but i'm sure that if you go to your local hair salon, they will be able to help you out. Good luck! it will look sooo cute!

Hair falling out/breaking/tangling after highlights -- products??

I've been growing my dark brown (virgin) hair super long for the last couple of years. A few weeks ago I decided to get blonde highlights, and although I ended up being pleased with the light blonde colour, I'm very dissatisfied with the condition of my hair. After every wash it is nearly impossible to detangle and comb through...and it's falling out/breaking off constantly. I'm not sure what went wrong because I used to dye my hair years ago and I've never experienced such damage from one dye job. I also don't blow dry or use any heat on my hair. The salon where I got it done told me they don't use bleach in their dyes (unless a person requests it), so I'm not sure what is causing all the breakage, or why I'm losing more and more hair by the minute.

If someone could shed some light on this issue or perhaps recommend some sort of product to get my hair looking healthy again, I'd really appreciate it.

just a month ago i was loosing hair like crazy my beautician told me to use this it is Matrix Essentials insecure leave in treatment i use it after i get out of the shower i the morning i just spray it on my scalp and hair and know my hair looks awesome i would try that good luck

Sounds like they used bleach. I dye my hair blonde and it always breaks and everything. My advice is just to use a color-protecting shampoo and conditioner because they protect your hair too. Try Dumb Blonde by bedhead. I condition with that once a week and daily I use herbal essences color me happy. Good Luck.

Some hair dyes can do harm to hair. You have to always read ingreadients even though it make take a long time. Products with to much dye and chemicsl will do serious damage to the scalp and that is what caused your hair to start falling off and braking out.

Yes we can take you back to your natural color. To do so would involve lightening it first with bleach. Color does not lift color! Unless you have very strong hair, my suggestion to you would be go heavier on your hightlights so your all over hair color is lighter, folowed by toning some of the highlighted hair with a darker blond that is closer to your natural level. The result would be you have some lighter blonde streaks, with streaks of a darker blond, mixed with the med brown color you started with.... Very pretty.

I want to know if I can just color over all of my hair with complementing color and just leave things solid. I suspect that the hightlights will still be visible through the new color but I really dont like the orange and need to do something. That happens when u don't leave it on long enough, or perhaps the product isn't strong enough for your dark hair.

I have been colouring my own hair for over 20 years - so please take my advice.

First of all you need to buy a shampoo like "Shimmer Lights" - its meant to reduce the brassiness. After a week of using it -( leave it on for as long as u shower - so it can penetrate) the brassiness will be gone. You can then alternate shampoos but use it to keep the brassiness from coming back.

Don't let the other responses scare you from at home hair colouring. Salons screw up all the time too.

If you need to look gorgeous ASAP then go ahead and colour all over with a semi-permanent or permanent colour that has ASH as the colour - very ash blonde is perfect.

I would never recommend coloring your hair yourself....always use a professional....that way you pay for what you get....

You have quite a bit of red in your hair. You need an Ash color to bring it back to a normal appearance. You need to see a professional to get that done.

Also, you have to invest in some serious conditioners for your oxidized and damaged hair so that it won't go frizzy on you on the top layer.

Get a layered cut as it grows out until your mistake is gone.

Purple neutralizes orange.

Don't dye your hair purple.

Go to a beauty supply store and get a shampoo with purple tones in it(There's one that has old people on the front and it says its for white hair or bleached hair). This WILL NOT dye your hair, so don't worry. It will however get rid of some of, if not all of the orange.

Another option is to buy a packet or two of Quick Blue bleach as well as a 40 volume toner.

Mix the two until they are the consistancy of chocolate mousse, and put it on the orange strands up to about a quarter inch from your roots. Leave it on about 10 - 15 minutes and then cover the rest up to your roots and leave it on another five minutes or so.

This is tricky, so if you feel even a bit hesitant, don't do it.

I hate to say it, but you'll either have to forget the highlights and dye your hair back to your original color, or shell out about $70 for a professional to fix it for you.

The orange highlights will turn out if you use lower level oxidant or less long time for the process. If your natural hair is darker, then choose higher level oxidant (ex. 9%). If you want to over-dye into solid color, choose one level darker than your choice. Remember to use lower level oxidant to get darker and longer-lasting color (ex. 4% or 6%) and make sure the mixture is not too watery.

They all sound wicked pretty but if you dont want to look punk I would steer away from the bottom half or the tips... Thats my favorite but it really does have an edgy kind of punk look to it. So if you want something that looks something other than punk I would go for the highlighted look... Layers or long straight would be cute.

Although it also depends on your skin tone, you might want to try the browns/the brownish reds..... that seems to be the best that works for me, but then again i do have a tan skin. If you have lighter skin, you might want to look into the lighter browns.
