foil the high lights and then dye the rest dark?

When I have done this in the past i have always used a frosting cap. Is it hard to foil?

If you do it yourself, it's gonna look very BAD. Get to a hairdresser as this is a multiple step process and you can't screw around with it unless you want your hair to look like crap!

You def want to foil. It makes the highlights last longer because you get closer to the scalp. And yes, first do the foiling, and then while the blonde is setting in, do the rest with the dark brown. Make sure you fold the foils well enough that no dark dye can get in though.

Is your hair already dark brown? if not, what color is it? if you don't have dark brown hair now, and want to do all that,it's going to be a BIG deal...tinting a darker color, then adding blonde highlights? could be a nightmare if not done professionally or at least by someone who's done it before!! Foil is hard to do on your own hair...if you are comfortable using the cap, do that....dye your hair brown first...then do the cap and bleach it with some quick blue and 40 volume peroxide. Then put a toner on it.

Honestly, you may end up with orangy highlights if you don't leave the bleach on long enough...and if it turns kind of orangy, you need to use a toner with a blue or a blue violet base...

If you are that concerned, you should probably have it done...

I'd say go with the foils just because in the salons I've been in, people always seem to choose them, so they must be the best!

Foiling looks pretty difficult though, so if you're not that great at hair then you should just go to a salon.

i personally think foiling is hard.i've done streaks already.what i did was that i dyed my hair with a base colour which was dark brown.and then i pulled out streaks which is very easy and affordable to do.when pulling out streaks(which is the same as highlights) u place a plastic cap with hundreds of tiny holes on your head and u pull out little by little of hair.then u colour them in whatever colour u want.i used honey blond.and the results was great.it looked beautiful. so that's my experience and i think u should try it.
