Clean to me is when your hair is nice and fresh and I wash my hair every 3 days so i never get what i would call 'dirty' hair - dirty hair to me is when its minging and greasy and in need of a good wash coz it stinks!

I dyed my hair before and they always say to wash before... and i guesss it hepls to have your hair clean because the dye will stay in better....but that was about 4 years ago.....i hope this helps.

Very clean, otherwise if your hair is dirty most likely it is oily and you want the hair color to absorb, and having it dirty will not help

Dirty. Most boxes tell you not to put the dye on clean hair. The oils in your hair play a big part in the dye process. You should wait at least one day after washing to dye it.

It's a known fact that dirty hair is best. The natural oils that have coated the "dirty" hair protect it from the harsh bleach. If the hair is too clean I can promise you the bleach won't take as well.

I've always heard DIRTY because you need protective oils on your scalp. Bleach and die can irritate your scalp if it is clean.

clean hair, coz it will be easier to absorb the chemical. if u dye with your dirty hair, there maybe too oily to allow the chemical get into your hair

well, it doesn't really make that much of a difference, as long as it's not nasty. its probably better if you dont wash your hair right before you go, but if you haven't washed your hair in 3 days, your hairdresser doesn't want to smell your scalp when she's foiling it...trust me, its nasty. also, if its really dirty, the color takes longer to process, and might not penetrate the whole way. but you dont want it super clean, either.

Whenever you dye your hair you want the hair clean but not freshly clean as your scalp` can be sensitive to the chemicals. Wash your hair the day before and always apply dyes to dry hair...

you should not wash your hair before dying it. wash your hair then wait till the next day to put the dye on this way the natural oil in your hair will protect your hair from damage.

My hairdresser always told me, for highlights, day-old hair is better. Wash it the day or night around 24 hours before you highlight, so it isn't squeaky clean but not dirty.

DIRTY, especially if you are having highlights put in using foils, not only is it easier for the person doing it cos the hair isnt so "fly away' but also the colours take better and do less damage to the hair, good luck

Well dirty hair is gross no matter what your doing. You have to have clean hair. Clean of any styling products or dirt but you have to wait at least a day after shampooing your hair so you still have natural oils on your head to protect your scalp when dying your hair.
