Depends on what you mean by that. If you mean using a flat iron, you'll have to put the heat on a lower setting and use a pretctive spray or ceam since dyeing your hair does cause some damage and heta styling dries your hair out even more. Also if you have say light blonde highlights you definately need to go easy on the heat styling since it can cause your hair to turn brassy.

If you're talking about chemically straightening your hair after highlights...just don't do it. The results are very damaging to hair causing it to become mush and will have to be chopped off. You can chemically straighten, wait about two weeks and if hair is in good condition you can then highlight the hair though...

My son has just hilighted his hair and I straightened it for him. His hair is quite course, thick and porous. Only you will know what your hair is capable of withstanding - if you feel quite comfortable with this, just ensure that you treat it with a hot oil treatment at least once a week - its worth it to spend a little extra to avoid spending a mass amount to fix it up after a few weeks or months, don't forget that when you wash your hair, towel dry it a bit prior to putting the conditioner on which should also be left on for at least 5 min so it is really absorbed well as the hilights really dry out the hair.
